In order to improve the diversity of immigrants who come to reside in the United States, it is implemented.
The diversity visa program grants permanent residency (often known as a “green card”) to more than 50,000 persons each year who are chosen at random and come only from nations that do not import huge amounts of people. This is a method for people and families to enter the country lawfully.
The Diversity Visa Lottery, sometimes referred to as the Green Card Lottery, requires only the completion of a brief online form and is free of charge. Every year from early October to early November, you can enter the lottery. Green cards are awarded to winners and their immediate families after a computerized random selection process.
Winners of the green card lottery are typically notified seven months after submitting their applications. Depending on how long you have been applying for your visa, scheduling an interview and getting your visa can take up to 14 months after you are chosen.
To be eligible for a Diversity Visa, you must have been born in a country that has sent less than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the previous five years.
